The Michigan Wolverines defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes 26–0 to earn their third Big 10 title on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The shut-out victory allowed Michigan to remain undefeated and secure the #1 seed in the College Football Playoffs, where they will face #4 Alabama.

Last year, Michigan fell to TCU in a 51-45 loss in the playoffs.  This year, they will face coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide in the Rose Bowl held in Pasadena, California, with the hope of advancing to the national championship in Houston, Texas. 

On the other side of the bracket, the undefeated #2 ranked Washington Huskies will face the #3 Texas Longhorns in New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl. 

Undefeated Florida State was excluded from the top 4 CFP rankings, becoming the first undefeated power conference champion to ever miss out on the playoffs. After FSU lost star quarterback Jordan Travis to a serious leg injury last month, speculation that the playoff selection committee would snub the team proved accurate. 

Along with their 2023 Big 10 Championship, the Wolverines celebrated the return of coach Jim Harbaugh after Harbaugh’s three game suspension in the wake of a sign stealing investigation.  In the Wolverine’s postgame celebration on Saturday, Big10 Commissioner Tony Petitti, who made the decision to suspend Harbaugh, was booed by the crowd as he presented the trophy to injured player Zak Zinter. When Petitti asked Harbaugh about his feelings regarding his third Big 10 win in a row, Harbaugh responded with one word: “Bet!” 

Saturday’s big win for the Wolverines made Harbaugh the first coach in Big 10 history to win three consecutive outright conference titles. In his final statement addressing the stadium, Harbaugh said, “Who’s got it better than us?” 

The stadium erupted in response, “Nobody!”
