M-1 Griffins fall to Plymouth High School in their first game of the new year

In a hard fought battle, the M-1 Griffins lost to Plymouth High School 4-2 on Friday at John Lindell Ice Arena. The Griffins created a strong offensive push, outshooting the Wildcats by 11, yet were unable to prevail. This pushed their record to 9-2-0, 4-0-0 in the league.

Forwards Charlie Price “C”, Zach Steiner, and Cash Stillwell, defenders Kyle Paswater “C” and Jack Thornton, and goalie Charlie Francis started for the Griffins. Quickly after puck drop, Steiner scored a goal, giving the team an early lead. For the remainder of the period, the Griffins were able to shut out Plymouth, with Francis making some important stops, and limiting the Wildcat’s offensive efforts.

Entering the second, the Wildcats responded with three quick goals over six minutes. Despite the rocky start, the Griffins held off Plymouth for the remainder of the period, beginning the third trailing 3-1.

The Wildcats scored again early in the last period to create a 3-goal lead. Although the Griffins created many chances, it wasn’t until the last two minutes that Steiner was able to add to the score sheet. Assisted by Paswater and Price, each of the three players picked up two points for the night.

The next day, the Griffins traveled to Rochester, defeating Stoney Creek 7-2 to earn another league victory, remaining spotless in the OAA Red Division. They’re now 10-2-0, 5-0-0 in the league, with 20 points in 12 games.

Hello! My name is Sophie Matthews and I am a senior. It is my second year on staff, and I am the Co-Editor in Chief for the 2023-24 school year! I absolutely love the Acorn and everything it has to offer. My favorite aspect is getting to meet so many new people and hear about the amazing accomplishments of my peers! On the rare occasion of me not doing Acorn-related stuff, you can find me out on the golf course, playing soccer, binge-reading, listening to Harry Styles, or spending time with family and friends. I’m an avid hockey fan, and am absolutely obsessed with my cat Mouse. I am so lucky to be part of the Acorn’s 96th volume, and am extremely excited for what this year has to offer!
