Faith can be personal, but for Sylvia Bossenberger, it’s also something meant to be shared. That belief led to the creation of C.O.R.E. – a student-run community that focuses on building relationships through faith and support. Since its beginning, C.O.R.E. has offered a place where students can bring their beliefs, doubts, and their full selves.
So what does C.O.R.E. stand for? Community, Outreach, Restoration, and Encouragement.
“I really think our relationship with the Lord brings all those things,” Bossenberger said.
She described how the group’s name and mission tie into a larger theme that guides their meetings and discussions.
“The whole curriculum is kind of made off of that. It made it feel more welcoming, and that’s what I wanted it to be.”
When asked what inspired her to start C.O.R.E., Sylvia didn’t hesitate to give credit to the people who pushed her forward.
“The personal project — but most of all, Mr. Snyder,” she said. “I couldn’t have done it without him.”
For students who may not know about C.O.R.E. yet, Sylvia makes it clear that everyone is welcome to join.
“We have our meetings on Thursday mornings in Mr. Snyder’s room — room 220 — at 7:15 in the morning,” she said. “And there’s always donuts.”
C.O.R.E. meetings aren’t about strict routines or formal lessons — they’re about connection.
“We don’t always do the same thing,” Sylvia said. “Sometimes we play games and other times we just hang out and talk.”
Each week, she shares a personal experience with God followed by a short message, keeping the atmosphere relaxed and welcoming.
At the heart of it all, Sylvia hopes to spread one simple message: “No matter who you are or what you believe, God still loves you.” For anyone thinking about joining, her advice is simple — “Don’t be scared. Come as you are. You don’t have to know anything — this is a place to learn, explore, and belong.”
