The Michigan Wolverines faced Purdue at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indiana on December 3rd. Fighting for the title of Big 10 Champions, the Wolverines pulled through by a final score of 43-22, and took home the Big 10 trophy for the second consecutive year, making their record 13-0.
Last year, Michigan took on Georgia in the College Football Playoffs (CFP), losing to the Bulldogs by a score of 34-11 in Miami, Florida. This year, the Wolverines played #3 Texas Christian University (TCU) in the playoffs on New Year’s Eve, with the hope of advancing to the National Championship on January 9th. On the other side of the bracket, Utah’s upset against USC opened a door for Ohio State to find their way back into the college football playoffs, even after their loss to Michigan. The #4 ranked Buckeyes then faced #1 Georgia in the semifinal.
Prior to the semifinal game against TCU, Michigan wide receivers Mike Sainristil and DJ Turner talked about what they would be focusing on.
“[I will do] what I have really been doing all season. Every day doing the little things like they are the big things.” said Sainristil.
“[I will be] sticking to the fundamentals, the foundation of what got us here. Staying crisp and clean,” said Turner.
The College Football Playoff teams played on December 31, 2022. The Michigan/TCU semifinal ended in a 51-45 score, with TCU pulling off a big upset against Michigan, in spite of a 7.5 advantage predicted for the Wolverines, according to CBS sports and ESPN. Later that night, Georgia pulled off a great comeback in the last seconds of their game against Ohio State, solidifying a spot in the championship game with a 42-41 win.
Texas Christian University as the underdogs and Georgia State as reigning champions competed for the national title on January 9th in Los Angeles, California. Yet another championship game was won by undefeated Bulldogs, with the final score of 65-7 against TCU Horned Frogs. The outcome of this game finally brought another college football season to its end.
Now, all college teams will gear up and look forward to not only the transfer pool, but the 2023 NFL Draft, an 88th annual meeting of National Football League franchises, where they select newly eligible players. The draft will be held in the plaza outside of the Union Station in Kansas City, Missouri in late April.
